AD Design Award 2021: Narkomfin Building

The project of restoration of The Narkomfin Building - the winner of the AD Design Award in the category “Preservation of heritage”. The winner was determined by the results of an open vote conducted by AD.

For more than 30 years, the masterpiece of constructivism had been in a state of despair, and only in 2020, the long-awaited scientific restoration took place through the joint efforts of the investor – “Liga Prav” led by Garegin Barsumyan and the architectural bureau of Alexey Ginzburg.

The Narkomfin Building - a manifesto building: unique engineering solutions and the idea of organizing a new type of housing were ahead of their time. In the process of scientific restoration, both its material basis and functions were scrupulously preserved. Without losing its authenticity, the revived monument surprisingly fit into modern reality, as if created specifically for our contemporaries.
